Professor Samuel Nii Odai Is The New Vice-Chancellor Of ATU

The Governing Council of Accra Technical University (ATU) on Friday November 22, 2019, inducted into office its first substantive Vice-Chancellor since the conversion from a polytechnic.
Professor Ralph Kingston Asabere, the Council Chair of the University who administered the Oath of Office admonished the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Nii Odai to work within the ambit of the University’s Statues. He further assured him of non-interference from the Governing Council but strict supervision.
Professor Asabere implored the new Vice-Chancellor to bring to bear his ‘‘solid background in Ghanaian, African and global educational matters’’ towards the realisation of the University’s vision.
Professor Samuel Nii Odai in his inaugural speech outlined his plans and vision for the University; the introduction of Comprehensive ICT Education, Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Education and Comprehensive Leadership Education in all the five faculties of the University. “We are taking advantage of the dynamics in the world of work to train our students so that they will be well placed for the fourth industrial revolution”, he said.
His vision, he revealed, would be hinged on seven strategic pillars including: Impact-oriented Research and Innovation for National Development; and the Enhancement of Students’ Experience through developing and delivering quality programmes to prepare them for the world of work.
Professor Kwesi Yankah, Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education who was the Special Guest of Honour, congratulated the new Vice-Chancellor and assured the University of the Government’s pledge to resource Technical Universities in the country.
He added that the Government was also working on the migration of staff of Technical Universities onto the Ghana Public University Salary Structure and Conditions of Service. He therefore implored all lecturers of Technical Universities to stay put and guaranteed them of the Government’s commitment to resolving all the unsettled concerns objectively and dispassionately.
Professor Samuel Nii Odai is a professor of Water Resources Engineering and a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
