Accra Technical University Launches Platinum Anniversary Celebration

Accra Technical University has launched its year - long 70th anniversary celebration with a call to education partners to collaborate in charting a path towards excellence through innovative education.
The University first established as a Technical School in 1949, has been at the forefront of producing technical men and women, occupying vital positions in industry. The launch, anchored on the theme: 70 years of innovative education; a path towards excellence, attracted old students, past and present administrators, industry actors, educationist and a host of other dignitaries.
Delivering the keynote address, the Honorable Minister of State in charge of tertiary education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, congratulated the University for its contribution to the mentoring of men and women who have carved a niche for their excellence in various industries in Ghana. Professor Yankah assured that, government will continue to promote the advancement of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) to improve the competencies and the quality development of the youth.
 “There is great recognition of the University’s (Accra Technical University) contribution to the successful grooming of generations of all – rounded and civic – minded men and women, many who have distinguished themselves in their careers, nationally and internationally. Have the assurance that the government will continue to invest to improve the quality of technical Universities and TVET programmes and training as a whole”.
On his part, the acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Edmund Ameko, renewed the commitment of management and all stakeholders towards achieving the mission, vision and core values of the University.
Professor Ameko said the globalization of the educational landscape has allowed for all round competition ranging from technology, population growth to employment opportunities. He added that the University will prepare the youth to be competitive in this technological environment through excellent skills and entrepreneurship development, impactful applied research and technological transfer, strategic partnership, excellence customer satisfaction, sustainable funding and the provision of quality teaching facilities that has immediate relevance to industry.
The Council Chairman of Accra Technical University, Professor Ralph Kingston Asabere commended the government of Ghana and educational bodies for their incredible contribution to the University to attain platinum. He said the strategic partnership between the government of Ghana, educational bodies and the University has seen the university benefit from a new campus at Mpemehuasem, the provision of a computer library by Amatrol and the construction of a four storey ICT -Examination block sponsored by the GETFUND.
The celebration had the unveiling of the 70th Anniversary logo and the outline of activities including, Alumni lecture, health walk and screening at Mpemehuasem, Anniversary float, platinum congregation and a host of other interesting events.
