The Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Prof. Samuel Nii Odai, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 launched a three-week Virtual Internship Programme for students of the University to acquire work experience in a simulated environment.
The Director of Industrial Liaison, Mr. Prosper Agumey, delivering the purpose of the gathering stated that the programme was organised in a bid to curb the challenges most students face when they apply for internship the traditional way. Highlighting the rationale behind the establishment of the Virtual Internship Progrqmme, Mr. Agumey said, “in an attempt to find a lasting solution for challenges such as, lack of space to accommodate a lot of students, stiff completion from sister Technical Universities and traditional universities, mismatch of programme of study with work schedules and working as errand persons, the Virtual Internship programme was established.”
“To make you competitive in the job market you need to excel in the practical areas of what you are being taught. The Virtual Internship programme provides students with practical skills and lessons required in the world of work,” the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, mentioned in his remarks on Academic Regulations and Guidance. He emphasised that students should abide by the rules and regulations set for the exercise and advised them to not sleep and relax but make the most of the opportunity given to enhance their skills set.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Nii Odai embraced the huge turnout of students and encouraged students to have as much fun while learning and not feel pressured by the programme. He advised students to use the opportunity to recognise their own skills and talents and improve on it by the end of the three-week programme.
The opening ceremony was graced by participating companies and their respective resource persons such as Advance Partners Company Ltd., Ecobank, Major Electricals Company Ltd., Toyota Ghana Ltd., Food Drop, Manpower Resources Company Ltd., Bula & Associates, Get Plus, Devtraco Ltd., Lands Commission, Data Bank, Ascension Consult and GH Media.
