National Service Personnel for the 2020/2021 service year posted to Accra Technical University have gone through a one-day orientation to formally usher them into the institution. The brief ceremony took place on Friday, October 23, 2020, at the University Main Auditorium.
Delivering the keynote address on the theme “Attaining the Vision and Mission of Accra Technical University: The Contribution of National Service Personnel”, The Vice-Chancellor in his speech urged them to uphold integrity and diligence in the discharge of their duties. He continued by encouraging the personnel to be creative and develop new ways of delivering their assigned duties. He also advised personnel on the best ways to spend their allowances to help them attain financial independence.
The Vice-Chancellor further announced a discount of GHc259 off tuition for interested personnel who would like to pursue any of the University’s Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programmes during their period of service. In his address, the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, who was also present at the event entreated them to be very supportive and helpful to their departments. He told the personnel to follow the right channels in communicating their complaints to facilitate redress, as he took them through the code of ethics to guide their stay in ATU.
The Acting Registrar, Mr Adu Adjei Mensah, Heads of Departments and Deans of respective faculties were also present to grace the occasion.
The personnel were allowed to ask questions and they were answered by the directors present. The orientation is to provide the NSS personnel with concise and accurate information to make them comfortable in their new role, encourage their confidence and help them adapt quickly to their job.
