ATU Rolls Out PLC Short Course

Accra Technical University has held a ceremony to unveil its newly introduced short course in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programming, Maintenance and Troubleshooting on 1st March 2021, at the University’s auditorium.

The Ceremony was to officially inform students and professional technicians about the start of the course and to abreast potential students of the procedures for enrollment. The new course is targeted at electrical technicians, electrical apprentices, certified electrical wiring professionals, electrical contractors and electrical engineers.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi emphasised the indispensability of PLC in our daily lives. He mentioned that PLC is pivotal in achieving automation in appliances such as Vehicles, Ships, aircrafts and many others. As such, it has become necessary to train more hands and minds to be adept at programming, maintaining and troubleshooting of PLC for industrial automation. 

The Course will be taught at two levels, the basic and intermediate levels for all professionals who will enroll for the programme.

PLC is an industrial computer control system that constantly monitors the state of input devices and make decisions based upon a custom program to control the state of output devices. It can be used in almost any production line and has the ability to change and replicate its operation while collecting and communicating vital information.
