The warm glow of Christmas lights and the harmonious voices of the Accra Technical University choir. filled the University forecourt on the evening of Thursday, December 18, 2024. The occasion was the university’s annual carols service, a celebration of faith, unity, and achievement that brought the entire ATU community together to reflect on the year and look forward with hope.
The atmosphere was alive with festive cheer as staff, students, retirees, and stakeholders gathered for the event, which combined scripture readings, musical performances, and heartfelt tributes. Nine carefully selected Bible verses, read by directors, guests, and stakeholders, weaved a narrative of faith and inspiration.
Speaking at the event, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, congratulated the staff for their dedicated contributions throughout the year. He emphasised that their collective efforts had led to significant achievements for the university, including its recent ranking as the fourth-best university in Ghana, the top Technical University in the country, and 43rd in Sub-Saharan Africa. Additionally, ATU earned recognition from the African Academic Conference as the best Technical University in West Africa, a clear indication of its remarkable growth. Professor Acakpovi encouraged the staff to maintain their commitment and strive for excellence in the coming year.
The celebration also paid homage to the people who have built and sustained ATU’s success. Several staff members were honoured with long-service awards, recognising their dedication and invaluable service of 15 years to the institution. Retirees, whose years of devotion have left an indelible mark on ATU’s legacy, were also celebrated in a moment filled with gratitude and reverence.
As the evening progressed, the carol service became a reconnection of history and a reunion between staff, students, and alumni amid food, music, and dance.
