ATU 10th Anniversary Celebration – Call for Logo Design Submissions
Accra Technical University (ATU) will celebrate its 10th anniversary since attaining university status under the theme “Celebrating a Decade of Transformation: Honouring Our Polytechnic Heritage, Embracing Our University Future.” To mark this milestone, the university is seeking a commemorative logo that captures the essence of ATU and celebrates its achievements over the years. The proposed logo should be simple, innovative, and easily recognisable, conveying a clear message of strength and unity. It must also be suitable for use across various media platforms, including print and digital formats, as well as on official merchandise. In the spirit of inclusiveness, the Anniversary Planning Committee seeks to engage all stakeholders of the University in this celebration. In line with this objective, individuals or groups are invited to submit logo designs for the anniversary. The competition is open to all members of the ATU community, including staff, students, faculty, and alumni. How to Enter: Submissions may come from individuals or groups. Designs must reflect ATU colours, its values, and its mission. Designs must be in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 1280 x 960 and be sent in size A4 (21cm x 29.7 cm) by email to [email protected] Designs must be accompanied by a text file explaining the design rationale and considerations for the logo (shape, colour specifications, font, etc.) in no more than 100 words. Designs (JPG) and explanatory text file (Word) must be submitted by email to [email protected] The email must include the name, phone number, and any national ID of the proposer or group leader and the capacity in which the submission is being made (staff, student, faculty, or alumni). Only one entry will be accepted from an individual or group. Please Note: No submission fee is required. The designer of the logo retains liability for any issues arising regarding the originality and authenticity of the design. The winning design will be checked with trademark databases for this purpose. Any plagiarised material will be rejected, and Accra Technical University is under no obligation to communicate this to the contestant. The deadline for entries is 23:59 GMT, 5th January 2025. Any submission after the deadline will be rejected. The chosen logo, once awarded, will become the sole property of Accra Technical University, which reserves the right to use the logo for any purpose and can make amendments to it if need be. Prize: In return for your services, we are offering a competitive compensation package and the opportunity to showcase your work to a wide audience. ATU Hosts RTI Law Training for Staff
Representatives from the Right to Information (RTI) Commission have taken staff of Accra Technical University through the Right to Information Law at a sensitisation workshop held on December 15, 2025, at the University’s Council Chamber. The training was aimed at strengthening the University’s understanding and application of the Right to Information Law, which is central to promoting transparency and accountability in public institutions. The workshop was organised through the joint efforts of the University’s Management and the Directorate of Public Affairs to prepare staff for the practical implementation of the law. Participants included directors, deans, heads of departments, faculty members and other staff of the University. The session focused on helping staff understand their roles and responsibilities under the law, particularly in relation to handling, sharing and protecting information. The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University welcomed the initiative and stressed the University’s readiness to cooperate fully with the RTI Commission to ensure the successful implementation of the law. He noted that in an era where information plays a critical role in development, research, and governance, staff must be guided on what information to protect, what to share, when to share it, and how to share it appropriately. He further emphasised that responsibility for the right to information does not rest solely with the Information Officer but with all staff, as part of safeguarding transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the University. The workshop covered key areas of the law, including an overview of the Right to Information Act, the manner of accessing information, the role of the Commission and the exemptions provided under the law. Presentations were delivered by Ms. Enu Afua Abuatiate, Kaynaj Goldy Nyameye Adjei, Andrew Adu Boahene and Samuel Kojo Awuah, who explained the technical aspects of the law in simple terms. The facilitators guided participants on how to request information, the timelines involved in processing requests and the steps to take when a request is denied. They also explained the types of information that can be accessed by the public and those that are exempt under the law. In addition, the officers highlighted the sanctions attached to violations of the Act, including cases of non-compliance, forgery, alteration of information and the provision of false information. The session was highly interactive, with staff asking questions and sharing concerns as they sought to gain a clearer understanding of the law and its application within the University setting.The Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) gives every person the legal right to access information held by public institutions and certain private bodies. The law is intended to promote openness, enhance accountability in governance, and empower citizens to participate meaningfully in national development, while also providing clear guidelines on the protection of exempt information.

CHRAJ Hosts Anti-Corruption Symposium at ATU, Urges Students to Lead with Integrity
The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has held a one-day anti-corruption symposium on December 9, 2025, at the auditorium of Accra Technical University (ATU), bringing together students and staff under the theme, “Youth as Guardians of Integrity: Empowering Students to Combat Corruption.” Opening the maiden edition of the symposium, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Professor Amevi Ackapovi, called on the university community to stay alert and continue to speak up against corruption. He noted that the effects of corruption spare no one and can affect anyone, no matter their position in society. In his opening remarks, the Commissioner of CHRAJ, Dr. Joseph Akanjolenur Whittal, thanked the University for creating the space to engage young people on an issue that affects the nation as a whole. He described integrity as the backbone of the fight against corruption, stressing that it must reflect in both public and private life. According to him, integrity is not just an idea but a daily practice shaped by the choices people make. He added that building a culture of integrity must begin with the youth. The Director of Anti-Corruption at CHRAJ, Mr. Stephen Azantilow, also took students through the different forms of corruption and their impact on society. He encouraged students to be bold in standing against corruption in all its forms. Dr. Whittal later delivered a detailed presentation on the theme, “Youth as Guardians of Integrity,” reminding participants that the fight against corruption is a shared responsibility that requires the effort of everyone, not just a few institutions.The symposium created an interactive space for discussions on ethical leadership, accountability, and the important role young people play in shaping a society built on honesty and transparency
Accra Technical University Holds Historic 25th Congregation as First Master’s Students Graduate
Accra Technical University (ATU) on Saturday, November 29, 2025, made institutional history as it graduated its first cohort of master’s degree students during its 25th Congregation Ceremony. A total of 2,771 students were awarded MTech, MSc, BTech, and Diploma qualifications. The ceremony, held at the University’s Ceremonial Grounds, marked a major feat following ATU’s transition to full university status and its expansion into postgraduate education. The event drew government officials, industry partners, alumni, and families who celebrated the achievements of the 2025 graduating class. Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Amevi Acakpovi praised the graduates for their resilience and highlighted the strategic importance of ATU’s new postgraduate programmes in advancing national development through high-level technical training. He also announced significant institutional accomplishments over the past year, including nearly 200 research publications, more than US$4.5 million secured in competitive grants, and the successful hosting of the first Applied Research Conference (ARCATU 2025). ATU expanded its academic offerings with 17 new MTech and 30 BTech programmes and strengthened global partnerships across the USA, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Infrastructure upgrades were also completed, featuring refurbished hostels, modernised laboratories, upgraded workshops, and the revitalised Precision Welding & Innovation Hub, developed in partnership with the Design & Technology Institute. Looking ahead, Prof. Acakpovi outlined plans to host Ghana’s first Robotics Technology Olympics, enhance centres of excellence, expand digital infrastructure, and deepen international collaborations to boost ATU’s global visibility. He commended the Class of 2025 for graduating with “confidence, character and industry-ready skills” and urged them to lead change rather than observe it. “Do not watch change from the sidelines, lead it,” he said, encouraging them to pursue excellence and make a meaningful impact on Ghana and the wider world.

Senior Vice President of MTN Group, Dr. Ebenezer Asante, has charged Accra Technical University’s students of the Graduating Class of 2025 to prepare themselves to lead Africa’s fast-growing technology space. He made this call during the 25th Congregation of Accra Technical University, held on 29th November 2025 at the university’s ceremonial grounds. Addressing graduates from the MTech, BTech, and Diploma programmes, the MTN Group executive encouraged them to see themselves not only as users of technology but as creators of solutions that respond to everyday challenges. He explained that today’s world is being shaped by powerful tools such as artificial intelligence, cloud systems, and automation, and urged the graduates to stay curious, open-minded, and willing to learn new skills. He praised Accra Technical University for its commitment to practical training, resilience, and quality teaching, noting that the institution continues to produce graduates that industry depends on. He noted that the continent’s challenges in areas like health, sanitation, food security, manufacturing, and security present opportunities for young people with technical skills to design meaningful solutions. He also highlighted how simple community efforts, such as volunteer clean-up groups, could be transformed with engineering ideas like sensors, drones, and data-driven systems. He reminded the Class of 2025 that the job market may be tough, and not everyone will secure employment immediately. However, he urged them not to fear this reality. Instead, he advised them to take internships, short-term attachments, online courses or pursue entrepreneurship while building experience and confidence. According to him, continuous learning and a strong mindset will be the key to long-term success. His address also reinforced the belief that the country’s digital progress will depend on graduates who are ready to think boldly, innovate, and apply their skills to real problems. With their foundation from ATU, the Class of 2025 stands prepared to contribute to Ghana’s next phase of technological advancement.
ATU Celebrates Outstanding Students Ahead of 25th Congregation
Students of Accra Technical University who excelled in both academic work and character have been celebrated ahead of the university’s 25th Congregation scheduled for November 29, 2025. The awards ceremony took place on 28 November 2025 at the University Auditorium. The event was held to recognise the outstanding achievements of graduating students from the Class of 2025, acknowledging their hard work, discipline, and commitment to excellence. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amevi Ackapovi, congratulated the awardees and noted that their success reflects consistent effort and dedication. He encouraged them to make excellence a habit and to rely on the discipline that has brought them this far. He also urged them to put their skills and knowledge from ATU to practical use, explaining that the world now rewards competence and ability more than certificates.Professor Ackapovi expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for the guidance and values that have shaped the students’ journey. He thanked them for trusting ATU and believing in the future of technical and vocational education. He also reflected on the university’s own progress within the year, highlighting improvements in academic offerings, international collaborations, grant opportunities, and strong performance in institutional rankings. She was also named the Overall Best Graduating BTech Student. Other awardees included the Overall Best MTech/MSc Graduating Student, Zenifar Bernard, with a CGPA of 4.75; the Best Female MTech/MSc Graduating Student, Owusu-Bempah Baaba, with a CGPA of 4.57; and the Best Graduating BTech International Student, Afegenui Meshongong Junior King-Blaise, with a CGPA of 4.59. ATU WiTED Chapter, Believe Global Foundation Donate to Nsawam Female Prison Inmates
The Accra Technical University (ATU) Chapter of the Women in Technical Education and Development (WiTED), in partnership with the I Believe Global Foundation, has extended support to the Nsawam Female Prison through a donation of toiletries, stationery, and essential provisions valued at GH₵8,000. The gesture forms part of the chapter’s ongoing commitment to giving back to society and supporting marginalised groups, especially women in vulnerable circumstances. Presenting the items, the President of the ATU WiTED Chapter, Eng. Dr. Mrs. Sarah Fanny Hackman Duncan emphasised that the initiative aligns with WiTED’s mandate to promote the welfare and empowerment of women. “Our goal is to ensure that no woman is left behind, regardless of her circumstances. Supporting these inmates is part of our responsibility to uplift and give hope to every woman in society,” she stated. She was accompanied by key executives of the WiTED Chapter, including Dr. Barbara Gyebi, Vice President; Prof. Emilia Ohene Afriyie, Organising Secretary; and Mrs. Jemima Nartey, Member. Together, they reaffirmed their continued commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and supporting initiatives that uplift women in vulnerable situations. During the visit, the team engaged with several inmates to better understand their daily experiences, challenges, and needs. These interactions, they explained, will help guide future outreach efforts to ensure that upcoming donations or interventions directly address the most pressing concerns. The inmates expressed appreciation for the opportunity to share their stories and concerns. Receiving the items on behalf of the facility, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Victoria Adzewodah conveyed profound gratitude to ATU WiTED and the I Believe Global Foundation for their thoughtful gesture. She noted that such donations significantly enhance inmate welfare, given the resource constraints the prison often encounters. She commended the team for demonstrating compassion and a strong sense of social responsibility. The donated items included two bags of gari, cartons of sanitary pads, one hundred pairs of bathroom slippers, assorted stationery, and bags of sachet water, among others. According to prison authorities, these provisions will help improve hygiene conditions, support daily living, and enhance inmates’ participation in educational and personal development activities within the facility. They stressed the importance of such support in promoting a more dignified and supportive environment for the women.

ATU Signs Contract to Expand ICT Block to Eight Floors
Accra Technical University (ATU) has signed a significant contract with FT Global Investment Limited to expand the University’s ICT Block from four floors to eight. The agreement, which was formalised at a brief ceremony in the Council Chamber, represents a significant investment in ATU’s technological future and growing academic needs. Speaking at the signing, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, stated that the project has become crucial due to the steady increase in student enrollment and the introduction of new, technology-driven programmes. “Our current ICT Block can no longer meet the demand. This expansion will give students and staff a modern space for hands-on training, research, and digital innovation,” he stated. He urged the contractor to deliver the project on schedule and reaffirmed management’s full support throughout the construction period. The Managing Director of FT Global Investment Limited, Dr. Issah Mohammed, thanked ATU for the confidence placed in his company. He assured the University community that the project will be delivered to a high standard. “We will provide a quality, fully integrated building that ATU will be proud of,” he said.Construction is expected to begin in the first week of January 2026 and is anticipated to take approximately 18 months to complete. Upon completion, the new eight-storey ICT Block will feature additional computer laboratories, digital lecture theatres, administrative and academic offices, and enhanced ICT infrastructure to support modern teaching and learning. Present at the ceremony were the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the Acting Registrar, and Directors of Finance, Procurement, Works and Physical Development, and Public Affairs. Their presence underscored ATU’s collective commitment to the project. The expansion of the ICT Block marks another bold step in strengthening ATU’s position as a leader in technical and vocational education, providing students with the right environment to learn, innovate, and excel.
