Accra Technical University To Intensify Competency Based Training For Students

Accra Technical University will expand and intensify the new approach in the examination of its engineering students by conducting practical examinations at the end of every semester, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Edmund Ameko has said at the University’s18th Congregation. The hands-on mode of examining students was pilot the last academic year.
Professor Ameko reiterated that, students will no longer have written examinations for practical courses but would be examined practically in laboratory workshops.
This comes after the Government of Ghana, through COTVET inaugurated  four workshops with state of the art tools, equipment machines, and other devices that would enable the University train students in the latest technologies in fluid mechanics, refrigeration and air-conditioning, digital technology and many others at the Mpehuasem Campus near Sansam.
In addition, the university is making arrangements to construct an irrigation dam to support its training in crop green housing, aquaculture and irrigation technologies among others to facilitate sustainable growth and development in the sector and support the Planting for Food and Jobs, One Village One Dam and other government initiatives.
Congratulating the 4,113 graduating, Prof. Ameko lauded them for sticking through to the end with their respective programmes. He advised them to always stay humble in all circumstances that, in as much as they strive for excellence; there is the need to guard against pride because “humility is the hallmark of successful leaders”. He added.
He advised students who were graduating not to be obsessed with the various academic certificates but rather the mentality they have and their behavior as well: urging them to have a more dexterous character which would bring forth what they have technically learnt in school when it is being demanded from them in the various industries in the market.
Various awards were presented to graduates who excelled in their respective courses.
