Date: August 9, 2023

In a heartwarming event aimed at fostering stronger bonds between the administration and its international student community, Accra Technical University celebrated Vice-Chancellor’s Day with a special soiree held at the university’s auditorium. The event was graced by the presence of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, among other Management Members and a diverse gathering of international students.

The evening unfolded as a vibrant exchange of cultures, ideas, and experiences, as students from various corners of the world came together to share their challenges, aspirations, and suggestions. Prof. Acakpovi, known for his commitment to student welfare, expressed his eagerness to listen to their concerns firsthand and assured them that their voices would be heard.

During his address, Prof. Acakpovi spoke about the university’s dedication to providing a conducive learning environment for all students, regardless of their nationalities. He emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and collaboration between the administration and the international student body. He stated, “We value the diversity you bring to our institution, and we want to ensure that your journey at Accra Technical University is both enriching and fulfilling.”

One of the major announcements of the evening was the introduction of a 20% rebate on tuition fees for international students starting from the next academic year. This decision was met with resounding applause and appreciation from the audience. The rebate is intended to alleviate some of the financial burdens that international students often face while pursuing their education at ATU.

Students had the opportunity to share their experiences and suggestions during an interactive session, leading to fruitful discussions about accommodation, cultural integration, academic support, and more. This platform facilitated an open dialogue that highlighted the university’s commitment to nurturing a supportive and inclusive environment.

One international student from the Gambia expressed his gratitude for the initiative, stating, “It’s heartening to see the university administration genuinely interested in our well-being. The rebate is a wonderful step that will make a significant difference to many of us.”

As the evening concluded, students and university officials mingled over refreshments, symbolising the unity that the university aims to foster among its diverse student body.

Vice-Chancellor’s Day at Accra Technical University marked not only a celebration of cultural diversity but also a reaffirmation of the institution’s dedication to ensuring that all students thrive academically and personally. The commitment to understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by international students demonstrates the university’s ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
