As part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Office of the Registrar, and the ATU Medical Centre, under the auspices of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi organised a health talk on Wednesday, 21st October 2026, at the University Auditorium, bringing together staff to learn more about breast cancer and preventive care.

The session was facilitated by Susana Odoi, Principal Nursing Officer and Public Health Nurse from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who educated participants on breast cancer, its possible warning signs, risk factors, early detection and available treatment options. The discussion also highlighted the importance of breast self-awareness, clinical examinations and mammograms in detecting breast cancer early.

Dr. Imam Abdul-Moomin Salford, Medical Officer-in-Charge of the ATU Clinic, also contributed to the discussion, advising staff to pay close attention to changes in their bodies, seek medical advice when they notice unusual symptoms, and take advantage of regular health screening. He stressed the importance of early detection in improving the chances of successful treatment.

The health talk formed part of the University’s breast cancer awareness and screening exercise held from 21st to 22nd October at the ATU Medical Centre.
