Raymond K. Baxey is an adjunct (part-time) lecturer at Accra Technical University, where he teaches media relations, strategic public relations planning and client relations, and creative thinking and problem-solving. He is an accredited public relations practitioner and the founder of the Newsroom Contest, an extracurricular activity that tests, broadens horizons, and provides experiential learning in news writing or reporting, strategic communication, communication research, and public speaking to undergraduate students pursuing communication studies and related programmes.
He authored the book “Win That Customer: Great Ways to Satisfy Customers and Keep Them Coming.” Additionally, he has a research publication in the International Journal of Scientific Research in Science and Technology (IJSRST) titled “Assessment of the Level of Knowledge of Non-scientists on Nuclear Technologies and their Applications at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.” He also has several feature articles on topical issues published in national newspapers, including “Curbing Irregular Migration: the Role of the Migration Management Bureau,” “Adopt Social and Behaviour Change Communication to Fight Galamsey,” and “Effective Crisis Communication Management in an Economic Downturn.”
He is pursuing his doctoral studies in development communication at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), formerly known as the University of Development Studies, Wa Campus, in the Upper West Region. His doctoral research focuses on health communication and the prevention of infectious diseases (specifically COVID-19) at the National Borders of Ghana. He holds a Master of Arts in Public Relations and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies (Public Relations Option) from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), which is now called the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC).
He has over 15 years of practice in communications and public relations, both in the public and private sectors, spanning the fields of journalism, client service, print advertising, public communication, corporate communication, protocol and event management, communication research, and science communication, among others. Professionally, he works at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) as an administrative officer responsible for communication and public relations.
Prior to joining the GAEC, he was the Head (Officer-in-Charge) of two units of the Public Affairs Department at the National Headquarters of the Ghana Immigration Service: the Media Relations Unit and the Information and Stakeholder Relations Unit. He was also the Designated Information Officer for the Right-to-Information law. He also served as the Protocol Officer for the Protocol and Event Management Unit and the Personal Assistant to the Head of the Public Affairs Department at the National Headquarters of the Ghana Immigration Service. Additionally, he was the first public relations officer for the Immigration Service Academy and Training School (ISATS) at Assin Foso in the Central Region.
He cut his teeth as a journalist at the Daily Graphic of the Graphic Communications Group Limited as a news reporter (intern). He then transitioned to working as a sales consultant for Realty Vacation Innovations, a timeshare company, and then as a client service executive for Imprint Limited, a print advertising company. He is a member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana and the Ghana Journalists Association.
