Accra Technical University (ATU) has received a major boost in its energy capacity following a generous donation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which provided the university with a pre-owned 800KVA generator. This donation is set to enhance the institution’s energy efficiency, addressing the growing demands of its expanding student population and infrastructure.

In an official handing over ceremony held at the IFC premises on September 27, 2024, in Accra, the Acting Vice Chancellor of ATU, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, expressed the university’s deep gratitude for IFC’s timely support. He acknowledged that the university has faced mounting energy challenges due to its rapid growth, and the donation would be instrumental in improving the overall energy supply, helping ATU to better serve its community.

Professor Acakpovi further reassured the IFC team that the university would use the generator judiciously, ensuring it serves the institution’s needs for years to come.

Senior Country Officer of IFC, Cemile Hacibeyoglu Ceren, highlighted IFC’s ongoing commitment to supporting educational institutions like ATU. She emphasized that IFC is dedicated to investing in projects that are both sustainable and impactful, particularly in the field of technical and vocational education. She expressed confidence that the university would greatly benefit from the generator, helping it continue to grow and succeed.

This latest donation is one of many generous gestures from IFC to Accra Technical University. Past donations have included IT equipment, laptops for students, and printers, all of which have significantly improved resources and accessibility for the university community. The addition of the 800KVA generator marks another step in strengthening ATU’s operational efficiency and energy capacity.
