ATU, CIUG to Leverage Resources for Positive Social and Academic Outcomes

Accra Technical University (ATU) and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana (CIUG) have solidified their academic collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, inked on 22nd November 2023 at Accra Technical University, establishes a partnership aimed at facilitating the teaching of the Chinese language and culture at ATU.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi expressed his excitement about the signing of the MoU as a new beginning for the running of the Chinese language and cultural programmes at ATU. “We are excited to sign this collaboration today, that the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana will support us with teachers who will come and deliver the Chinese language to the people who will apply,” he said.

On his part, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, Professor Wang Jimin, expressed his heartfelt thanks to ATU for signing the MoU to deepen cooperation in the direction of Chinese language education. “I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Accra Technical University, with whom we are looking forward to our cooperation” he stated.

Commencement of the MoU will run from the date of its signing by both parties and shall remain in focus for three years, after which it shall automatically expire. However, amendments to the MoU would require written approval from both parties for modification.

Additionally, the parties agree to consider the availability of resources pertaining to academic collaboration, staff and student exchanges, and the provisions of the relevant government legislation that apply to each of the institutions. ATU and CIUG are dedicated to collaborating in good faith to ensure that the frameworks that have been agreed upon between the two parties are fulfilled.

The articulation of this MoU is a plus for Accra Technical University and CIUG to achieve its goals and plans towards the learning of Chinese language and cultural programmes in ATU.

The occasion had in attendance Management, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and other Directors from CIUG.
