ATU, MTEVTA Agree to Collaborate for Academic Cooperation
Date: November 8, 2023

Accra Technical University (ATU) and the Ministry of Technical Education, Vocational Training, and Apprenticeship Cote d’Ivoire have sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic cooperation.

The agreement was signed between the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, and Initial Vocational Training Managing Director, Alain Bernabé Yavo, on November 8, 2023 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The occasion had in attendance the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Sylvia B. Oppong-Mensah, Director of Finance, Mr. Frank Owusu Boateng, Dean, Faculty of Applied Arts, Dr. Vivian Biney-Aidoo, and HoD Accreditation, Dr. Peter Arhenful and other Associate Directors of MTEVTA.

The MoU was sealed to establish and facilitate trans-national collaboration, where MTEVTA shall collaborate with all public and private Technical and Vocational training institutions in Cote d’Ivoire to partner with ATU for students and staff placement and exchange programmes at their respective institutions. In addition, the two institutions will work together to create a framework that will enable the continuation of skill-based education in STEM programmes with a focus on the development of students’ professional, technical, and entrepreneurial skills.

The memorandum of understanding also outlines the parties’ agreement to work together to create a framework for student placement and exchange programs between Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana for industrial internships; create a well-organized framework for students’ ongoing language development to achieve intermediate and advanced fluency in English and French; create staff exchange programs for industrial internships and language immersion; and jointly organise seminars, workshops, and other academic activities that will benefit both parties.

Additionally, the parties agree to take into account the availability of resources pertaining to academic collaboration, staff and student exchanges, and the provisions of the relevant government legislation that apply to each of the institutions.

The commencement of the MoU will run from the date of its signing by both parties and shall remain in focus for three years, after which it shall automatically expire. However, amendments to the MoU would require written approval from both parties for modification.

ATU and NUIST are committed to working together in good faith to see the fruition of the agreed terms. The inking of this deed is a feather in the cap of ATU in the attainment of its strategic goal of Internationalisation and Visibility.
