ATU Outdoors Innovative Projects at Skills Exhibition; Launches Book

Accra Technical University (ATU) hosted an exhilarating exhibition program to spotlight the diverse talents within its student community. Held at the university’s auditorium, the event was a vibrant platform for students to showcase their inventive projects, practical expertise, and creative endeavours across various disciplines.

The exhibition, a testament to ATU’s strong commitment to practical education and skill development, presented an impressive array of exhibits spanning engineering, technology, the arts, design, and computer science. Drawing a diverse audience comprising students, faculty, industry professionals, and the public, the event was a captivating testament to the university’s burgeoning talent.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, commended the students for their exceptional contributions. Speaking on the theme for the program, “Applied Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development”, Prof. Acakpovi emphasised the significance of such exhibitions in nurturing innovation and practical learning, reiterating the institution’s dedication to fostering a culture of creativity and skill development. Prof. Acakpovi also highlighted the need for a joint research laboratory to enhance equipment and foster collaborations with other institutions for more innovative projects.

Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Director General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, delivered an insightful speech on the role of technical universities in Ghana’s economic development. He stressed the importance of applied research and its impact on community development, urging researchers to implement strategies that propel Ghana’s growth as a developing nation.

On his part, Mr. Tsonam Cleanse Akpeloo, the Chief Executive Officer of SUKU Technologies and the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), encouraged students to cultivate a strong work ethic for their future ventures into the industrial world.

From intricate engineering models to sustainable design solutions, each exhibit demonstrated the students’ commitment, creativity, and technical competence. Engaging demonstrations and presentations provided deeper insights into the concepts.

Faculty members, industry experts, and guests were impressed by the caliber of work displayed, acknowledging the students’ dedication and problem-solving abilities. The event facilitated networking opportunities and potential collaborations, reinforcing ATU’s reputation for producing skilled graduates ready to excel in diverse fields.

Adding a historic touch, the exhibition featured the first-ever book launch at the university by Prof. Amevi Acakpovi titled “Technological Innovation Driving Sustainable Entrepreneurial Growth in Developing Nations” published by IGI Global in 2023. The book aims to foster industrial evolution and promote innovative projects.
