Dr. Charity A. Ahiabor is a dedicated and accomplished Senior Lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, with a specialised focus on parasitology and the study of parasitic diseases that significantly impact public health. With a PhD in Parasitology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Ahiabor’s career has been defined by a deep commitment to understanding the intricate dynamics between parasites and their hosts, as well as advancing the field of disease control and prevention.
Throughout her professional journey, she has engaged in extensive field and laboratory research, collecting and analysing samples from a diverse array of source – human, animal, and environmental – to explore the biology of parasitic infections. Their research interests span the epidemiology of parasitic diseases, host-parasite interactions, molecular parasitology, and vector biology, with particular emphasis on high-impact diseases such as malaria, schistosomiasis, and soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STHs). This multi-faceted approach aims to develop innovative strategies for controlling and preventing parasitic diseases, with an eye toward improving global health outcomes.
Dr. Ahiabor’s passion for research is matched only by her dedication to teaching and mentorship. As a lecturer in parasitology and microbiology, she has played a key role in shaping the academic careers of countless students, providing guidance and support through her research projects and academic development. Recognising the critical importance of passing on knowledge to the next generation of scientists, she is deeply committed to nurturing a learning environment that encourages enquiry, critical thinking, and practical application of scientific principles.
In addition to her teaching and research, she is an active member of the Ghana Science Association, staying engaged with the broader scientific community and contributing to the ongoing development of parasitological research both locally and internationally.
Through her work, she exemplifies the power of science to improve lives, balancing the demands of rigorous research with the rewards of mentoring young scientists and contributing to the broader fight against infectious diseases
