Seminar on Stress Management Organised for Senior Members

The Guidance, Counseling, and Career Development Directorate of Accra Technical University (ATU) has organised a symposium aimed at enhancing the well-being and productivity of Senior Members of the university. The symposium, held at the ATU Auditorium on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, gathered a diverse group of experts and professionals to address various aspects of staff welfare and development.
The event featured a lineup of distinguished speakers, including the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, representatives from the ATU Clinic, and Mrs. Linda Tormeti, Director of the Human Resources and Organisational Development Directorate (HRODD). A prominent resource person, Mrs. Elizabeth Yeboah, specializing in stress management also shared valuable insights with the audience.
In his opening remarks, Professor Amevi Acakpovi emphasised the significance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. He urged Senior Members of the university to prioritise their well-being and avoid overworking themselves, noting that a rested and rejuvenated staff is essential for the institution’s growth and success. The Acting Vice-Chancellor’s words resonated with the audience, underlining the importance of self-care and personal well-being in academia.
The symposium’s highlight was the presentation by the resource person, who delved into the topic of Stress Management and effective strategies for reducing the impact of stress on productivity and family life. The expert’s engaging talk provided valuable tools and techniques for the attendees to mitigate stress and maintain a healthier work environment.
Furthermore, Mrs. Linda Tormeti, Director of HRODD, addressed the assembly on the critical issue of occupational hazards and workman compensation. Her informative session educated senior members about the potential risks associated with their roles and the available support mechanisms provided by the university. Mrs. Tormeti emphasised the importance of safety and the need for staff to be aware of their rights and benefits in case of work-related incidents.
The symposium, which fostered an atmosphere of learning and collaboration, received positive feedback from participants. It served as a platform for senior members of Accra Technical University to gain valuable insights into their well-being, stress management, and occupational safety, reaffirming the university’s commitment to the holistic development of its staff.
