Accra Technical University Acting Vice-Chancellor Honoured as SDGs Africa’s Most Influential Personality

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University (ATU), Professor Amevi Acakpovi, has been named the SDGs Africa Most Influential Personality at the 6th African Sustainability and SDG Awards. The event, hosted by the Association of African Sustainability Practitioners (AASuP), took place on 23 October 2025 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra and marked the culmination of a two-day conference themed “A Decade of SDGs in Africa: Resetting Our Climate Goals for Agenda 2030”.

Professor Acakpovi received the honour in recognition of his exceptional leadership in promoting sustainability-focused education, applied research, and innovation within Ghana’s technical and vocational sector. His administration has advanced initiatives in renewable energy, climate resilience, digital transformation, and industry partnerships that directly contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In his acceptance remarks, Professor Acakpovi expressed appreciation to AASuP for acknowledging ATU’s continuing strides in sustainable development. The accolade strengthens Accra Technical University’s profile as a leading institution in SDG-driven transformation and underlines Professor Acakpovi’s influence in shaping sustainability discourse and practice across the continent.
