Accra Technical University (ATU) Signs MoU with La Nouvelle École des Métiers (LaNEM), Benin to Deepen Footprint in the Subregion

Accra Technical University (ATU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with La Nouvelle École des Métiers (LaNEM), Benin, at the University Council Chamber on Monday, 6th October 2025.

Speaking at the brief signing ceremony, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, stressed the need for the University to establish a strong presence within the West African sub-region. He noted that partnerships such as this are essential for advancing regional integration, promoting collaborative research, and accessing international grants that support innovation and development.

Professor Acakpovi further highlighted that the MoU would facilitate staff and student exchange programmes between the two institutions, fostering cross-cultural learning and practical exposure. He expressed optimism that the collaboration would not only strengthen academic ties but also contribute to the training of a globally competent workforce.

On his part, Mr. Yaovi Soglo, Founder and President of LaNEM, intimated that regional integration was essential to the continent’s educational and economic advancement. He noted that it was important for institutions within the West African sub-region to strengthen their collaboration and build robust partnerships before seeking international engagements. According to him, fostering unity and cooperation among African institutions is key to achieving sustainable development and promoting excellence in higher education across the continent.

Professor Felix Kutsanedzie, Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ATU, assured the gathering that the University would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful implementation of the collaboration.

The brief ceremony was attended by some members of Management and Deans of Faculty, who offered positive remarks and expressed their optimism about the opportunities the partnership would bring to both institutions. They commended the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening academic collaboration, regional integration, and the international visibility of Accra Technical University.
