Accra Technical University has successfully matriculated its students for the 2024/2025 academic year in a ceremony held on February 22, 2025, at the University Ceremonial Grounds.

In a speech by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, he congratulated the newly admitted students on successfully transitioning into University life and taking pride in joining the premier technical University.
According to Professor Amevi Acakpovi, 18,669 new students have been admitted out of the 22,230 applicants into various Mtech, Btech, HND, Diploma and Non-tertiary programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year. He attributed the steady growth in the University’s population to the quality of education and training the University offers. Additionally, he revealed that the University has admitted 31 international students from nine different countries across West and Central Africa, indicating the University’s continuous commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Professor Amevi Acakpovi used the occasion to reiterate the University’s vision of becoming a world-class Technical University, equipping students with cutting-edge knowledge, skills, and competencies to meet the demands of an evolving global economy. He encouraged students to immerse themselves in the culture of the University by upholding its academic integrity, utilising available resources, and engaging in extracurricular activities.
He reminisced on the University’s recent achievements as evidence of its outstanding contributions to technical education and sustainable development, among which were the Times Higher Education rankings 2024, of which ATU ranks 1st Technical University in Ghana, 4th best University in Ghana, 18th in West Africa, and 43rd in Sub-Saharan Africa. Others included Best Technical University in West Africa 2024 at the Africa Academia Conference and Awards and the Best TVET institution in Ghana at the Ghana Technical Student’s Awards 2024.

In his final words, Professor Amevi Acakpovi advised students to set clear academic and personal goals that will guide them to success. He called on students to uphold integrity, innovation and excellence, which are the core values of the University and charged them to be good ambassadors of the University’s great reputation, told the news students to use their time at the university to grow, explore and prepare for a bright future.
