The Accra Technical University (ATU) has held its matriculation ceremony for 8,677 newly
admitted students for the 2022/2023 academic year to pursue Higher National Diploma (HND), Advanced Diploma, Bachelor of Technology, and certificate courses.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Samuel Nii Odai, urged the
students to be diligent in their studies while adhering to all school regulations.

He further stated that while there were a lot of fun-filled activities on campus, students should not be distracted by those activities, relegating their studies to the last minute.
“Resolve in your hearts to take your studies seriously in order to achieve your main objective of being here, that is, to earn a certificate,” he advised.

Courses the university offered, Prof. Odai said, were geared towards adequately equipping students with the requisite skills for the industrial world, and urged students to take the technical courses seriously as they held the key to industrial change in the country.

These courses, he added, were the backbone of change for many a global economic giant.
According to him, the 2022/2023 intake had seen a significant increase in science and
technology-related courses. “This year, the Science and Technology to Humanities ratio stands at 71:29…. this a slight increase from last year where we had 68% in Science and Technology and 32% in the Humanities,” he revealed.

The university, he said, had procured some new furniture and had begun renovations in the lecture rooms and hostels for students’ comfort and urged them to be responsible and take good care of all the items to ensure that they lasted for posterity to benefit.

Prof. Odai cautioned students against cheating on exams, stating that anyone caught cheating in any way will not be protected. He entreated the admitted students to show respect to all lecturers and those in positions of power, adding that they played the role of parents in the institution, working for the benefits of students.

The newly admitted students vowed to uphold all school regulations and advance the interests of the university through an oath to establish their new status.
