Accra Technical University (ATU) and St. Louis University (SLU), USA, continue to strengthen their partnership by creating more opportunities for students to gain international learning experience and develop skills that are in high demand across the world.
The latest initiative under this growing collaboration is the introduction of the 1+1 MSc in Applied AI and Decision Analytics programme. The joint postgraduate programme allows students to complete their first year at ATU before transferring to St. Louis University in the United States to complete the second year.
Built on a shared commitment to quality education, innovation, and global collaboration, the partnership is designed to equip students with practical knowledge in Artificial Intelligence and data analytics while giving them the opportunity to study in two different academic environments.
Students and members of the University community had the opportunity to interact directly with officials from both ATU and St. Louis University during an information session held at the ATU Akwaaba Lodge on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The session provided useful information on admissions, course structure, scholarship opportunities, credit transfers, and what students can expect from studying in both Ghana and the United States.
Gracing the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, described the programme as a significant milestone in the University’s internationalisation agenda. He said the initiative goes beyond introducing a new master’s programme, representing an important opportunity for the University’s growth and development through transnational education. According to him, the partnership will enhance the quality of teaching and learning, strengthen quality assurance systems, build the capacity of academic staff, increase the University’s international visibility, and create sustainable opportunities for future generations of students. He expressed confidence in the programme’s success, noting the strong interest it has already generated, and assured participants of the University’s full commitment to ensuring its long-term sustainability.
The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Nana Yaw Asabere, described the programme as another important step in ATU’s efforts to prepare students for the future. He explained that as Artificial Intelligence and data continue to transform industries across the world, universities must equip students with the right knowledge and practical skills to remain competitive.
The Associate Vice President of St. Louis University, Dr. Troy Hargrove, reaffirmed his University’s commitment to the partnership and encouraged participants to view postgraduate education as an investment in their future. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would provide students with valuable international learning opportunities while strengthening the relationship between the two institutions.
Participants learned more about Accra Technical University during a presentation by the Deputy Registrar and Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Fausta Ganaa Killian, who highlighted the University’s academic achievements, growing international partnerships, and commitment to practical, student-focused education.
The programme structure was explained in detail by the Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Dr. Osei Antwi, who outlined the courses students will study during their first year at ATU. Student Success coordinator, Mr. Peter Oriasotie Edeawe, took participants through the second year of the programme at St. Louis University, explaining the academic experience, campus life, and opportunities available to students in the United States.
The introduction of the 1+1 MSc in Applied AI and Decision Analytics programme is one of the many outcomes of the partnership between Accra Technical University and St. Louis University The agreement was established to strengthen academic cooperation between the two institutions through joint postgraduate programmes, faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research, and other initiatives that promote innovation and international education.
