ATU Holds Inaugural Leavers’ Seminar to Prepare Final-Year Students for Life Beyond Graduation

The University Auditorium came alive with energy and anticipation as final-year students from across all five faculties converged for the inaugural two-day Leavers’ Seminar held on Wednesday, 9th, and Thursday, 10th July 2025. Held under the theme “Marking the Moment: Graduation as a Gateway to Purpose and Possibility”, the seminar sought to empower students with insights into the significance of graduation and the opportunities it unlocks.

Organised by the University’s Public Affairs Directorate through the Alumni Relations Unit, the event brought together a dynamic mix of students and featured engaging sessions led by prominent figures from the University’s leadership and the ATU Alumni Association. Discussions centred on personal growth, alumni engagement, and navigating the evolving world of work.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, urged students to view themselves as ambassadors of the University’s legacy and to cultivate a strong work ethic that would serve them well in the professional world. The Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felix Kutsanedzie, who chaired the occasion, encouraged students to embrace the flexibility and innovation brought by artificial intelligence in today’s job market.

The Acting Registrar, Mr. Adu-Agyei Mensah, offered a practical overview of the graduation process, guiding students through the steps leading up to the ceremony. Speaking on the theme, the Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Fausta Kilian Ganaa, stressed that graduation should not be viewed as a mere formality but as a defining transition that sets the stage for purpose-driven lives.

A highlight of the seminar was an address by the Global President of the ATU Alumni Association, Mr. David Ayisala, who shared his inspiring journey from student to accomplished professional. He emphasised the power of the alumni network in providing mentorship, career opportunities, and lifelong connections that fuel personal and professional growth.

With the successful conclusion of the inaugural seminar, it is expected that this tradition will continue to thrive, nurturing generations of empowered graduates who are proud ambassadors of their alma mater.
