MUBARAK KATAALI ABUBAKAR

DIRECTOR FOR WORKS AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, ACCRA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

Mubarak Kataali Abubakari is a seasoned Structural Engineer and a Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers (UK). He has over 22 years of extensive experience in design coordination, contract administration, and project management. He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and an MSc from the University of Salford, UK.

His professional career includes notable roles at Capita Symonds in the UK, where he was based at the Southampton office and led major projects such as steel structures, school buildings, feasibility studies, pile foundations, and high-rise structures. Mubarak’s expertise in project management is particularly noteworthy, having successfully overseen a range of complex projects.

Upon his return to Ghana, Mubarak took on the role of a Senior Structural Engineer at Comptran Engineering. Here, he demonstrated his leadership and project management skills by overseeing diverse projects, including buildings (steel and concrete), ferry landing sites, culverts, transport terminals, and heavy structural framing. His work encompassed prestressed and in-situ concrete structures, showcasing his technical versatility.

Currently, Mubarak is the Director for Works and Physical Development at Accra Technical University. In this capacity, he oversees the development and maintenance of the University’s physical infrastructure, including buildings, roads, and green spaces. His key responsibilities include:

1. Supervising staff to ensure the efficient functioning of the Directorate.

2. Managing contracts for physical and infrastructure development projects.

3. Advising on land use, construction contracts, and procurement of consultancy services in compliance with national regulations.

4. Providing architectural and engineering designs and bills of quantities for construction projects.

Mubarak is well-versed in global and national procurement frameworks, including the World Bank Procurement Procedures, FIDIC forms of contract, and Ghana’s Public Procurement Act 2003 (Act 663), as amended by Act 914.

His professional journey demonstrates a commitment to engineering excellence and effective project delivery in both local and international contexts.
