The Department of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management (HCIM) at Accra Technical University has relaunched its Demonstration Block after extensive refurbishment works that have transformed it into a modern hospitality facility for both training and service.

The relaunch, held on October 31, 2025, brought together university officials, staff, and students to witness the rebirth of the facility, which now serves a dual role providing practical training for students while catering to the needs of the university community.

The rejuvenated block features new culinary equipment and upgraded spaces, including a reception area, manager’s office, kitchen, dining hall, conference room, and accommodation units. It will also offer laundry services, making it a complete hospitality setup for real-world learning and client service.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, commended the department for its dedication and said the project reflects ATU’s strong focus on practical education and community service. He urged staff and students to maintain the facility and ensure it continues to serve its purpose.

The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts, Professor Osei Adjei, said the upgrade has brought new energy to the faculty, motivating them to deliver quality training that matches industry expectations.

The Head of Department, Mrs. Lynda Dede Graham, described the refurbishment as a proud moment for the department, recalling the block’s history in shaping careers and building professional confidence among students. She said the department is ready to provide a new level of hospitality experience to the university and beyond.
With its new look and improved facilities, the HCIM Demonstration Block is expected to continue producing graduates who reflect ATU’s culture of hospitality and service with a smile.
