Engr. Prof. Felix Y.H. Kutsanedzie is a distinguished academic and practitioner in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. He currently serves as Acting Vice Chancellor of Accra Technical University. A licensed professional engineer, he also holds a full professorship in the university’s Faculty of Engineering and has over 12 years of teaching and research experience. Prof. Kutsanedzie specialises in designing and fabricating advanced sensing technologies, including spectroscopic systems, nanosensors, and bioengineering devices, with applications in food safety, biomedical imaging, environmental monitoring, and renewable energy systems.
Prof. Kutsanedzie’s research has garnered international acclaim, particularly his groundbreaking work on re-engineering near-infrared spectroscopy systems for detecting volatile gaseous substances. His innovative sensing probe, published in the prestigious Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical Journal, has set new global standards in nondestructive detection methods. His extensive publication record, which includes the recent Advances in Nanowires Synthesis and Applications to Sensing Technologies (Intech Open, UK), spans various forms of scholarly communication, demonstrating his influence on a global scale.
In his academic career, Prof. Kutsanedzie has demonstrated unwavering dedication to mentoring the next generation of engineers and scientists. He has supervised numerous undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral projects, reflecting his commitment to nurturing talent. His research interests, which include bionanotechnology, chemometric algorithm development, biosystem design, and waste-to-energy innovations, have inspired and guided many. His ability to secure and manage research grants, coupled with his numerous awards and fellowships, further underscore his leadership and commitment to the field.
Beyond research and teaching, Prof. Kutsanedzie has held key leadership positions that have significantly impacted the academic and professional community. These include Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Head of the Research and Innovation Centre, and Director of the Drone and Innovative Technologies Development Centre at Accra Technical University. His contributions include serving as an editor and reviewer for leading academic journals such as PLoS One, BioMed Research International, and Frontiers Sensors. He is also a certified Elsevier peer reviewer and a Committee for Publishing Ethics (COPE) member.
Prof. Kutsanedzie’s professional affiliations are proof to his deep involvement in the wider engineering community. The AD World Scientist and University Rankings have ranked him as Ghana’s National Best Scientist in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, 10th in Africa, and 68th in the world. His contributions to academia, research, and professional practice underscore his standing as a global leader in his field.
