ATU Signs MoU with Green Auto Factory Aichi to Boost Automotive Training and Global Employability

Accra Technical University (ATU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Auto Factory Aichi Limited (GAFA) to provide specialised training in automotive maintenance and Japanese language education to prepare students for global career opportunities.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the University’s Council Chamber, forms part of ATU’s efforts to strengthen industry collaboration and equip students with skills that meet international standards.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, described the partnership as a major step forward in the university’s mission to produce graduates who are ready for the modern world of work. He explained that the automotive industry is rapidly evolving towards smart systems, digital diagnostics, and electric mobility, making it necessary for institutions to prepare students with relevant, globally competitive skills.

He noted that the collaboration will focus on delivering practical automotive maintenance training alongside Japanese language education to enhance students’ employability and prepare them for opportunities beyond Ghana.

Professor Acakpovi added that the programme will adopt flexible learning approaches, including online, hybrid, and blended methods, to ensure accessibility while maintaining quality. He said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to youth skills development, technical excellence, cultural exchange, and international workforce readiness.

Chief Executive Officer of Green Auto Factory Aichi Limited, Mr. Yusuke Osuki, also noted that his organisation will combine classroom learning with practical training to ensure students gain hands-on experience. He explained that the goal is to implement an education model that prepares students to become globally employable professionals.

The MoU establishes a structured partnership between the two institutions to jointly deliver training programmes aimed at strengthening technical competence and enhancing career opportunities for students. Under the agreement, ATU will provide institutional and administrative support, while GAFA will develop training content, provide instructors, and issue certificates to participants upon completion.

The agreement will remain in force for five years, with the possibility of renewal by mutual consent.

The partnership is expected to enhance the university’s training capacity and further position ATU as a leading technical university committed to innovation, skills development, and global relevance.
