FanMilk Ghana, in partnership with Accra Technical University (ATU) and the university’s Faculty of Engineering, has marked this year’s International Women’s Day with a career empowerment programme aimed at equipping young women with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s dynamic workplace.
The event, held on March 10, 2026, at ATU’s main auditorium, brought together students, early-career professionals, and industry leaders for a day of mentorship, professional dialogue, and practical learning. Organised under the theme “Accelerating Your Career Journey in a Growing, Inclusive, and Diverse Work Environment,” the programme sought to inspire students, particularly young women, to take intentional steps toward building impactful and sustainable careers.
Welcoming participants on behalf of the Dean of Students Affairs, Vice Dean Prof. Mrs. Emelia Ohene Afriyie expressed appreciation to FanMilk Ghana for partnering with the university to organise the initiative. She noted that collaborations between academia and industry have become increasingly important in preparing students for the realities of the job market.
Prof. Afriyie encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from professionals who have successfully navigated their career paths. According to her, universities must go beyond classroom instruction by creating platforms that expose students to practical industry knowledge and professional networks that can support their transition into the world of work.
Delivering the keynote address, the Head of Human Resources at FanMilk Ghana, Mrs. Sylvia Esi Yawson, underscored the importance of competence, preparation, and confidence for young professionals entering the workforce.
She advised students to deliberately develop their skills and commit to continuous learning, explaining that confidence often grows from adequate preparation and competence. Mrs. Yawson also urged participants to take internship opportunities seriously, describing them as critical avenues for gaining practical experience, understanding workplace culture, and building valuable professional relationships.
She further highlighted the importance of personal branding and self-development in career growth, encouraging young women to define their professional identities early and consistently invest in strengthening their capabilities. According to her, such efforts can significantly improve their prospects within competitive and diverse workplaces.
A major highlight of the programme was a panel discussion featuring female professionals from FanMilk Ghana. The session focused on strategies for accelerating career growth while navigating inclusive and diverse professional environments.
Panelists shared personal experiences of overcoming challenges in their respective fields and emphasised the importance of resilience, mentorship, and determination. They also stressed the need for organisations to foster workplace cultures that promote diversity, collaboration, and equal opportunities for women to advance.
For many students who attended, the programme offered a valuable opportunity to interact directly with experienced professionals and gain practical insights into the expectations of modern workplaces. Discussions throughout the event reinforced the importance of mentorship, networking, and continuous learning in shaping successful careers.
