ATU Organises Pre-Retirement Orientation for Soon-to-Retire Staff

The Directorate of Human Resource and Organisational Development (DHROD) of Accra Technical University (ATU) has organised a one-day pre-retirement orientation for members of the university community scheduled to retire soon.

Held on Tuesday, 9th July 2025, at the ATU Akwaaba Lodge, the session was designed to prepare participants mentally, emotionally, and practically for life after active service.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Linda Tormeti, Director of HROD, explained that the orientation sought to equip participants with the right mindset and tools for a smooth and meaningful transition into retirement. She stressed that retirement should be viewed not as an end but as a new chapter of possibilities that require deliberate planning and support.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, who graced the occasion, said that the initiative forms part of ATU’s ongoing efforts to promote staff welfare and ensure that employees are well-prepared for every stage of their professional and personal lives.

The orientation featured expert-led sessions on key aspects of retirement, including SSNIT benefits and retirement claims, preventive care, regular check-ups, and lifestyle adjustments to promote wellness in the post-work years; savings, investments, and entrepreneurship as a means of sustaining financial independence after retirement; coping with change, stressing the importance of mental resilience, social engagement, and emotional well-being; and exit ATU procedures, clearance processes, and post-retirement support systems in place to assist departing staff.

The event ended with an interactive session where participants asked questions and shared reflections on their expectations and retirement plans.
