ATU Signs MoU with WAPCMLS to Launch Dual Certification Postgraduate Programme

Accra Technical University (ATU) has entered into a strategic partnership with the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Sciences (WAPCMLS) to enhance academic and professional collaboration in the field of medical laboratory sciences.

The partnership was formalised on April 15, 2025, during a signing ceremony held at the University Council Chamber.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both institutions will jointly develop and deliver postgraduate programmes, promote academic and research collaboration, and facilitate professional development and training. The agreement also aims to drive innovation in the delivery of academic programmes.

A major highlight of the partnership is the introduction of a dual certification postgraduate training programme. This unique initiative will enable students to earn both an academic degree from ATU and a professional certification from WAPCMLS upon completion.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, described the partnership as a forward-thinking initiative that bridges the gap between academia and professional practice.

Professor Nafiu Amidu, Registrar of WAPCMLS, commended ATU for its strong foundation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), noting that the university is well-positioned to support WAPCMLS’s mission of promoting excellence in the medical laboratory profession.

Professor Acakpovi signed the MoU on behalf of ATU, and Professor Amidu signed on behalf of WAPCMLS. The ceremony was witnessed by key stakeholders, including members of the University Management, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, a delegation from WAPCMLS, and an official from the Ministry of Health
