Ideal Home Deco Empowers ATU Future Designers with Full Scholarships
Six students from Accra Technical University’s Interior Design and Upholstery Technology Department have been awarded full tuition scholarships under the Ideal Home Deco Empowering Futures Scholarship Awards. The winners were honoured at a ceremony on 20th February, following a competition that showcased their skills in open-concept design, swimming pool design, and furniture design. Speaking at the event, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, praised Ideal Home Deco for its strong industry-academia partnership and called on more companies to invest in student development. Mr. Tony Haikal, CEO of Ideal Home Deco, described the scholarship as an investment in students’ potential and careers, while Mrs. Audrey Forson, President of Interior Designers and Decorators Ghana, commended the initiative for promoting creativity and professionalism in the industry. Professor Amevi Acakpovi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University (ATU), praised the students for their innovative projects, which have earned them fully funded scholarships. The competition featured three categories, with Sonia Anne Carole winning the furniture design category, Anthony Doe taking the swimming pool design award, and Dawson Aziz emerging as the open-concept design winner. Each of the six scholarship recipients received full tuition coverage and souvenirs, while other finalists were awarded cash prizes. The Ideal Home Deco Empowering Futures Scholarship Award, established through a partnership between ATU and Ideal Home Deco, aims to provide hands-on training and industry exposure, ensuring that young designers have the resources and opportunities needed to excel in their careers. The call for entries for the design competition opened in August 2024, inviting students to develop creative and functional interior concepts. Out of the 24 submissions received, 10 were shortlisted and proceeded to an oral presentation stage, where they competed for six available scholarship slots.
Africa Health Researchers Gain Insights on Go-to-Market Strategy Ahead of Roadshow
Participants of the Africa Health Research and Innovation Project have undergone a one-day intensive training on Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy, aimed at equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to successfully launch and scale their innovations. The session, held as part of preparations for an upcoming roadshow, was facilitated by Mr. Eugene Eluerkeh from Design Thinking Ghana Hub. A GTM strategy is a comprehensive plan that outlines how a company will introduce its product or service to the market. It involves identifying the target audience, defining the value proposition, determining distribution channels, setting pricing models, and executing marketing tactics. A well-structured GTM strategy plays a critical role in ensuring a successful product launch and seamless market adoption. In addition to the GTM strategy, the training also covered pitching innovation, which involves effectively presenting new ideas, products, or services to potential investors, customers, or stakeholders to secure funding, support, or market adoption. The session provided participants with practical insights on how to craft compelling pitches that capture attention and drive investment opportunities. Approximately 41 participants participated in the training, engaging in interactive discussions and hands-on exercises designed to sharpen their business acumen and innovation commercialisation strategies. The training serves as a crucial step in their journey towards showcasing their innovations at the upcoming roadshow, where they will have the opportunity to demonstrate the impact of their solutions on the healthcare sector. The Africa Health Research and Innovation Project remains committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the health sector, empowering researchers and entrepreneurs with the knowledge and resources needed to turn groundbreaking ideas into impactful solutions.
Africa Health Research Programme Participants Gain Financial Modeling Skills
The Africa Health Research and Innovation Programme has successfully concluded an insightful training session in Operational and Financial Modelling at Accra Technical University (ATU). The session, held at the University Auditorium on February 4, 2025, aimed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge to develop sustainable and impactful innovations in the health sector. The training was facilitated by Mr. Kelvin Quartey, an investment expert, who guided participants through critical aspects of financial planning, operational efficiency, and sustainability models. The interactive session provided young innovators with practical tools to structure their ideas and enhance their capacity to drive transformative solutions in healthcare. Speaking on the significance of the training, Mr. Quartey highlighted the importance of empowering young minds with technical expertise and financial acumen. He noted that such training sessions play a pivotal role in fostering innovation and ensuring long-term success in health research and development. ATU and Jeonnam State University Forge Strategic Partnership in Aviation and Drone Technology
Accra Technical University Signs MoU with Jeonnam State University to Enhance Academic CooperationAccra Technical University has agreed with Jeonnam State University, Korea, in a brief virtual signing ceremony at the University’s Council Chamber on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korean university is set to enhance academic and educational cooperation between our institutions. The partnership hinges on research, staff and student exchange, and joint academic initiatives, including academic lectures and symposia, exchange programmes for staff and students, and joint development of educational courses in aviation and drone technology, collaborative research projects. Professor Jong Hun Chun, Head of Air Drone Innovation & Convergence University Project at Jeonnam State University, was grateful for the opportunity and stressed that the agreement was not just the signing of an official document but a journey of mutual academicbenefit,t especially in the area of drone technology. In his address, Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, was optimistic that the collaboration would bolster the gains of the ATU Drone Centre while ensuring that staff and students at both universities with advanced technical skills and global exposure. The ceremony was graced by some Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments.

Freshmen to Prioritise Practical Skills and Discipline
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University (ATU), Professor Amevi Acakpovi, has urged newly admitted students to focus on practical skill acquisition and discipline to achieve academic and professional success. Speaking at the university’s orientation program on January 15, 2025, at the institution’s auditorium, Professor Acakpovi emphasised ATU’s commitment to bridging the gap between education and industry demands through its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes. Speaking at the orientation programme, Professor Acakpovi reaffirmed the university’s mission to equip students with the hands-on skills required in today’s competitive job market. “As a TVET institution, our focus is to prepare you with competencies that make you job-ready and capable of excelling in your chosen fields,” he stated. He encouraged students to take full advantage of the university’s practical curriculum, designed to produce industry-ready graduate Pro. Acakpovi encouraged students to develop habits that foster long-term success. “By disciplining yourself and staying focused on your studies, you can achieve excellence in your academic journey,” he stated. He further warned against misconduct, emphasising that any actions harming their reputations or the university’s image would not be condoned. “Integrity and discipline are essential for both personal growth and the success of the institution,” he concluded. The Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Seth Allotey, opened the event with a warm welcome to the freshmen, urging them to comply with the university’s rules and regulations. “This gathering is essential to familiarise you with the university’s systems, policies, and resources. It’s a platform to equip you with the information you need to thrive here at ATU,” he explained. The programme featured presentations from various university directorates, including Academic Affairs, ICT, Public Affairs, Industrial Liaison, the Examinations Office, and many more. These sessions provided students with a detailed overview of the resources and services available to support their academic journey. The event concluded with an interactive session where students engaged directly with university officials, seeking clarity and advice on various academic and non-academic matters. The orientation programme left the freshmen inspired and well-prepared to embark on their educational journey at Accra Technical University, embracing a vision of disciplined, skill-focused education.
