Kutsanedzie is a full professor in agricultural and biosystems engineering at Accra Technical University and a member of the Mechanical Engineering Department., and a professional engineer licensed under the division of Agricultural and Bioengineering. He was appointed Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor on March 11, 2024. He is a prolific researcher and writer who has several genres of publications such as short communications; reviewer papers, edited book chapters; edited books with chapters; conferences papers, and peer-reviewed papers in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and Engineering Village Index (EI) journals retrievable from the World of Science (WoS) spanning his areas of research interest and focus. He has a specialty in fabrication of nondestructive sensing technologies – near-infrared, ultraviolet-visible and Raman spectroscopic systems, hyperspectral imaging and multispectral imaging systems, colourimetric sensors, electronic nose (e-nose) devices, electronic tongues (e-tongue) devices, computer vision, biosensors, upconversion and surface-enhanced spectroscopy (SERS) nanosensors for which his works have been world-widely published and received awards. His novel work, published in the Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical Journal, on the development of a sensing probe composed of porphyrin-based chemodyes coupled to a near-infrared spectrophotometer and supported by chemometric algorithms pioneered the re-engineering of near-infrared spectroscopy systems for detection of gaseous substances – volatile, which hitherto could detect only solid and liquid matter. Engr. Prof. Kutsanedzie has garnered twelve (12) years teaching experience at the tertiary level, with a research interest in areas such as: designing and fabrication of microelectromechanical machines (MEMS) or devices / lab-on-chip devices; sensors fabrication for quality and safety monitoring of biomaterials, food, environment, biomedical and pharmaceutical materials; synthesis and fabrication of nanomaterial and biomaterial based devices for varied uses – bio and biomedical imaging, biosensing; bionanotechnology, fabrication of devices coupled to chemometric algorithms for nondestructive detection of materials; application of multivariate algorithms for image and spectral data preprocessing and processing; food processing and biosystems designs; food-water waste treatment and management systems designs; renewal energy systems; bioenergy and biofuel generation; project management; experimental designs and analysis. He held several scholarships – Government of Ghana Scholarship at the secondary school level (1995 – 1997); Jiangsu Presidential Scholarship (2015-2015), Jiawen Fellowships Award in recognition of Excellence Academic Performance (2018), JU – China, Food and Biological Engineering School Scholarship (2015-2018). Engr. Prof. Kutsanedzie received the best PhD student’s dissertation and outstanding award, from Jiangsu University in 2018 (JU), China. He has in addition received the best poster, academic star and fellowship awards from JU. Coupled to these, he has written and won several grants; supervised several Higher National Diploma and Degree students’ projects and ten (10) postgraduate students project – both masters and doctorate degree dissertations. Engr. Prof. Felix Y.H. Kutsanedzie is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, AccraTechnical University. Prior to that, he held the following positions – Head, Research and Innovation Centre (2013 – 2015); and Drone and Innovative Technologies Development Centre (2018 -2021). He has served on several committees to share his expertise and as well contributed in many research conferences both on community, institutional, national and international platforms. He served as an Associate Editor for the Directory of Open Journals (DOAJ) from 2015-2017, Liaison for functional food in Africa Universities (2012-2016), Editor of APT Multidisciplinary Journal; Editor for PLoS One; Editor for BioMed Research International Journal; Associate Editor of Frontiers Sensors; and currently a certified Elsevier peer-reviewer and a member on the Committee for Publishing Ethics (COPE). Additionally, is currently the editor of Editor of Advances in Nanowires Synthesis and Applications to Sensing Technologies [Book], Intech Open Publishers, UK, which is expected to be launched later in 2022. He is a member of the America Society for Agricultural and Biological Engineers, National Black Engineers Society; Society for Biological Engineers; Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET-GH); Council for Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET-GH); Ghana Engineering Council Disciplinary, Legal and Ethics Technical Committee and Ghana Society of Agricultural Engineering (GSAE). Prof. Amevi Acakpovi is a Professor in the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department at Accra Technical University. He is also a Graduate (MSc/MPhil) Supervisor/External Assessor at the Faculty of Telecommunications, Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) and an External Researcher in the Laboratory of Applied Energetic and Mechanics (LEMA) at the Polytechnic of Abomey-Calavi (EPAC), University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC), Cotonou, Bénin. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the Lokossa Institute of Technology (Republic of Benin) in 2006 and a Certificate of Designer Engineer (Eq. MSc.) in Electrical Engineering Option Control of Industrial Process from the Abomey-Calavi University (Republic of Benin) in 2009. Prof. Acakpovi further pursued a PhD degree in Energy Systems Engineering from a joint collaboration between the Open University Malaysia and the Accra Institute of Technology in Accra, Ghana from 2011 to 2017. During his PhD studies, Prof. Acakpovi developed and implemented with software, prominent solutions to cost optimization problem of Hybrid Energy Systems (HES) using metaheuristic optimization techniques like particle swarm optimization and additionally developed and tested a general framework for optimizing HES. Dr. Acakpovi is the author of a number of publications in International Journals including IEEE conferences, and transactions as well as other SCI-Indexed and EI-Indexed journals. Prof. Amevi Acakpovi is currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University since December 2020, a position he occupied in the past from June 01 to July 02, 2019 and June 01 to November 30, 2020. Some of the prominent positions he occupied recently in the University include Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (2018-2020) and Head of the Electrical/Electronics Engineering Department (2012-2018). As part of his academic leadership, Prof. Acakpovi led various teams to submit a number of proposal for grants, some of which were successful. He is a winner of COTVET grant for skill development project windows 2, year 2018 and has also won a number of grants and awards to attend short pieces of training abroad. He is currently leading a team of Engineers to apply for the Government of USA grant through MIDA for the development of an Energy Service Centre in Ghana which is worth USD 3,300.000. Prof. Acakpovi was highly instrumental for the Faculty of Engineering and the University at large, in developing accreditation documents for both NCTE and NAB. He led a number of accreditation processes successfully. His contributions in developing proposals, conducting workshops on CBT curriculum development, meeting the accreditation teams, and mounting and defending new programmes were favourably appreciated by the University community. Additionally, Prof. Acakpovi took part of a number of international events that uplifted the image of his department and the University at large. Some of these included his participation in the World Skill International in Kazan, Russia as Electrical Representative for Ghana, the Off-grid conference in Stuttgart, Germany to mention but a few. Besides, Prof. Acakpovi has acquired great experience in teaching and learning at the Graduate level. He has extensively taught Master’s level courses and supervised more than fifty (50) MSc. theses from various recognized Universities. He is handling five (5) PhD thesis from the Open University of Malaysia / Accra Institute of Technology and has been selected at multiple occasions as an External PhD thesis moderator for an Engineering thesis at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. Prof. Acakpovi was a recipient of the SILVER AWARD – Engineering, Science, Technology & Innovation in October 2014 at the International Research Initiative Conference (IRIC) in Accra, Ghana. He also received in 2012 an Award of Innovation in Engineering at the 1st Applied Research Conference in Africa (ARCA), in August 2012 at Cape Coast, Ghana. In addition, Prof. Acakpovi received in 2018, the Best Paper Award at the 7th IEEE International Conference on Adaptive Science and Technology and subsequently the best track paper award in project management at the IEOM conference in South Africa in 2018. Prof. Acakpovi is the reviewer of many journals including IEEE transaction in Sustainable Energy, International Journal of Renewable Energy Researcher (IJRER), the Journal of Energy (Elsevier/Science Direct) and many others. His current research interests include Hybrid Energy Systems, Mini and Microgrid Optimization, Smart Grid Modelling and Optimization, Solar and Wind Energy Modelling and Optimization, Artificial Intelligence in Energy Systems and Recommender Systems. Prof. Amevi Acakpovi has recently been upgraded to the senior membership of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE) since 2019 and he is also a member and head of the Electrical Division of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Ghana. Dr Acakpovi is also the Elected Vice President of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Ghana Chapter and a Consultant to the Ghana Standard Authority for the review of Electrotechnical Standards. Finally, Prof. Acakpovi is the elected president of the Technical Committee 77, on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) that reports to the African Electrotechnical Standardisation Commission (AFSEC), a branch of the African Union.
