The Department of Mechanical Engineering as part of its community service has trained selected roadside mechanics from Adenta in the Greater Accra Region.

The day’s programme which took place at the department’s laboratory and workshop on Monday, 30th May 2022, was focused on the effective and efficient use of the onboard diagnostics (OBD) tool as a mechanic.

The OBD is a computer system that monitors and controls the operation of a vehicle. This onboard computer system gathers data from the vehicle’s network of sensors, which it can subsequently utilise to regulate auto systems or warn the driver of problems.

The beneficiaries, Eric Anim and Kwaku Hammond Tarso, a mechanic and manual gearbox specialist respectively were accompanied by Philomena Ahey, a Voluntary Community Facilitator at the Complementary Education Agency. They were thankful for the opportunity to broaden their horizon in their field of work and expressed excitement and confidence in the possibility of future programmes.

Wisdom Kwame Anane, a technician at the department took the beneficiaries through the theory and practical aspects of the training and was supervised by Dr. Isaac Asempah, a teaching staff at the department.
