Inauguration of ICT FlexLab: ATU Staff & Students to be equipped with Tech Skills.

Accra Technical University continues to renew its efforts in integrating ICT and Entrepreneurship into its Technical Education philosophy with an official inauguration of the ICT FlexLab on 13th May 2022 at the university campus.

The establishment of the ICT FlexLab is part of an ongoing DigiCAP Project, a partnership between Accra Technical University and the AFOS Foundation. The project is geared towards harnessing the educational and Fourth Industrial Revolution benefits of improving Digital Capacity in Data Science and Business intelligence in the University through online and face-to-face sessions.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Samuel Nii Odai, expressed his excitement about the project and lauded the ATU management for their tireless efforts in bringing the project to fruition. He called for all hands-on deck to ensure its sustainability beyond the stipulated period of the project. He said that the project would be a precedent for similar future ideas and innovations that will make Accra Technical University a citadel of higher learning in Africa and beyond.

The project manager of DigiCAP, Hanna Schlingmann, who represented AFOS Foundation at the launch, recounted the project journey and acknowledged all who have been integral from the drafting of the project to securing funds to ensure its success. She mentioned that the project aims to train about 50 students to become skilled in data analytics for six months. She was hopeful that the partnership between ATU and AFOS would build a solid ground to offer attractive and market-relevant training courses to both students and professionals.

The AFOS-ATU partnership is one of the few between AFOS and Higher Educational Institutions across the country. The Foundation currently partners with the University of Cape Coast and Ashesi University, where similar projects have been rolled out. Apart from the ICT training, the DigiCAP projects also support ATU in collaboration with Ashesi University’s System Change Programme in establishing and running a Career Centre for all students on Campus.
