ADMISSION AND PROGRESSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission Requirements New Applicants:

West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to be admitted to level 100

Applicants with a minimum grade of C6 or better in three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and three (3) elective subjects namely:  Physics, Elective Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry, will be admitted to level 100 of the BTech Medical Imaging Technology Programme.

Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) to be admitted to level 100

Applicants with a minimum grade of D or better in three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Core

Mathematics, Integrated Science, and three (3) elective subjects namely:  Physics, Elective Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry, will be admitted to Level 100 of the BTech Medical Imaging Technology Programme.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level to be admitted to level 100

Applicants with passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better) in addition to having credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject for Science students will be admitted to level 100 of the BTech Medical Imaging Technology Programme.

Top-Up Applicants:

Higher National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology may be admitted to level 100.

Applicants with the 3-year Higher National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology (HND SLT) with a CGPA of not less than 2.5 from a recognized institution may be admitted to level 100 of the BTech Medical Imaging Technology Programme.

Bachelor of Technology Science Laboratory Technology may be admitted to level 200.

Applicants with the Bachelor of Technology Science Laboratory Technology with a CGPA of not less than 2.5 from the Accra Technical University and other recognized institutions, may be considered for admission to level 200 of the BTech Medical Imaging Technology program after passing an interview.

Bachelor of Science Qualifications may be admitted to level 200 after passing an interview.

Applicants with a 4-year Bachelor of Science in either biological science, biochemistry,applied biology, laboratory technology or other life sciences qualification with CGPA of not less than 2.5 (Second Class Lower Division) may be considered for admission to level 200 of the BTech Medical Imaging Technology programme after passing an interview.

A Diploma in Radiography / Diagnostic Imaging / Sonography / Medical Imaging Technology may be admitted to level 200 after passing an interview.

Applicants with the 3-year diploma in radiography, diagnostic imaging, sonography, medical imaging technology (radiographer technicians) with CGPA of not less than 2.5 (Second Class Lower Division) from a recognized institution accredited by the Allied Health Professions Council, with a minimum 1year working experience in the health sector, may be considered for admission to level 200 of the BTech Medical Imaging Technology Programme after passing an interview.

Mature Students’ Entry (To be admitted to Level 200):

The applicant must:

  • Be at least 25 years old.
  • Show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth date which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.
  • Provide an introductory letter from the employer or show any other proof of employment for 2 years or more.
  • Radiography Technicians
  • Pass mature students’ entrance examinations.

Progression

Students are required to take and pass the required number of courses per semester as well as for the whole program. The GPA per semester should be at least an average of 1.50. The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for the programme should not be less than 1.50.

To progress from one semester to another semester a student should attain a minimum CGPA of 1.50. However, a student who after resit has four trails but with a CGPA of 1.5 or better shall be put on probation or repeat the academic year. A student with more than four trails after resit examinations and a CGPA less than 1.5 would be advised to withdraw from the programme. A student shall have a maximum of six years to meet all the requirements for graduation.
