Accra Technical University (ATU) has matriculated 15,457 fresh students at a ceremony held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, calling on them to focus on building strong foundations that will shape their future.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Professor Acakpovi described the matriculation as an important turning point in their lives. He explained that the ceremony officially makes them full members of the University, giving them a new identity and responsibility as students of ATU.
He said the students are entering a stage of life where they must focus on developing themselves, not only academically but also in character, discipline, and technical skills. He explained that university education is a preparation period where students build the knowledge and strength they will need to succeed in life.
Using a simple illustration, he reminded the students that real growth often begins from within. He explained that just like a plant that develops strong roots before growing taller, students must use their time in the University to build a solid foundation. He noted that success does not happen instantly but comes from steady preparation and commitment.
Professor Acakpovi also shared that the University received 27,795 applications and admitted about 18,000 applicants, out of which 14,060 students completed their registration, while others were still in the process. He said the increasing number of students choosing ATU shows the growing confidence in the University.
He advised the students to remain disciplined, avoid examination malpractice, and respect University rules and regulations. He encouraged them to take advantage of the laboratories, workshops, and innovation hubs to develop practical skills that will prepare them for the job market.
The Vice-Chancellor further explained that the University experience will come with challenges, including academic pressure and personal difficulties, but these challenges are part of the process that prepares students for the future.
He reminded them that while their certificates are important, their character and skills will determine how far they go in life.
The ceremony officially welcomed the students into Accra Technical University, marking the beginning of the journey to grow, develop, and prepare for their future careers.
