Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor

The Pro Vice Chancellor’s office is headed by the Pro Vice Chancellor who is normally elected by convocation from amongst the academic staff. The Pro Vice Chancellor is assigned responsibilities by the Rector and acts for the Rector when the latter is absent.

Professor Edmund Ameko was appointed as Pro Vice Chancellor of the University on the 15th of January, 2016. He is an Associate Professor in Food Science and Technology of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) of Accra Technical University.

Prior to his appointment as Pro Vice Chancellor, he was Dean of the School of Applied Sciences and Arts of the University (2013 - 2015) and also the Director of the Research Innovation and New Programmes (2013 – 2015).

Professor Ameko also served as Vice Dean of the School of Applied Sciences and Arts (2011 – 2013), Head of Department of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (2014 – 2015), Head of Department of Hotel Catering and Institutional Management (HCIM) (2013 – 2014), Deputy Head of Department of SLT (Sep 2009 – Oct 2009; Sep 2007 – Aug 2009; and Jan 2003 – Jan 2005), University Examinations Officer (2003 - 2007) and Examinations Officer of the Department of SLT (2001 – 2002).

He has an M.Sc in Food Science and Technology and B.Sc in Biochemistry (1995-1999) both from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Professor Ameko’s areas of research include Food Processing and Preservation as well as Laboratory Technology. He has 25 peer reviewed journal articles; co-authored four books; presented papers at over 10 research conferences, both nationally and internationally; and presented several research posters and exhibits.

Moderation of Examination Questions

The examination questions and marking schemes for all the HND programmes are submitted to this office for onward transmission to External Examiners and moderators for moderation to ensure that high standards are maintained in terms of the quality. From the moderators, these questions are sent to the Examination Office for typing and used on the examination dates.

Final HND Examination Results (sixth semester results)

These results originate from the department and are sent to Academic Board for approval. The office of the Pro Vice Chancellor serves as a co-ordinator of these results. The final and corrected versions after being sent to the External Examiners for signing are then sent to NABTEX for consideration and the final award of the Higher National Diploma (HND) to deserving students.

Examination Malpractice Committee

The above committee is set up by the Pro Vice Chancellor at the end of each semester examination to handle all cases of misconduct during the examination. The report of the committee is submitted to the Pro Vice Chancellor for onward transmission to Academic Board for necessary sanctions to be imposed on affected students.

Teaching Time-Table

The Pro Vice Chancellor’s office also handles the preparation of the teaching time-table for every semester.

Part-Time information

Issues on part-timers in terms of teaching hours and claims for payment for teaching and marking scripts are handled by Pro Vice Chancellor’s office. All information on part-timers in the various departments can be obtained from the Pro Vice Chancellor’s office.

Syllabuses

This office is also charged with the task of examining the syllabuses of the various departments as well as their reviewing.

Committees

The Pro Vice Chancellor also chairs various committees in the institution and they include; the Housing Estate Health Committee, Students’ Welfare Committee and the Industrial Relations Committee.
